Our Relationship-Based Approach

We imagine a world where everybody has the opportunity to connect with their inner life and with other people through meaningful experiences in nature. 

Our purpose is to provide creative and flexible nature-based experiences to improve physical, social and emotional wellbeing across the lifespan.  

Our work is grounded in holistic, relationship-based models drawn from Attachment theory, Nature Connectedness research, Occupational Therapy and Social Work:

  • Person-centred and Strength-based practice - We believe all people are unique, bringing individual gifts and strengths to this life on earth. We value, welcome and respect people from different backgrounds and experiences. We partner with people to tap into their personal resources, by opening up new opportunities and providing strategies for improved wellbeing and function in life.
  • Trauma informed approach – We understand that people are shaped by their experiences, and sometimes the pain and hurt from past trauma will make it tough to cope with daily life and move forward. We see behaviour as a form of communication and aim to establish safe spaces, collaborative and trusting relationships.  In this supportive environment, new ways of coping can be explored that offer choice and foster hope for the next steps in recovery.
  • Holistic wellbeing framework – Rather than taking a purely clinical or medical approach to health and wellbeing, we understand it to be multifaceted, involving physical, social, emotional and spiritual elements - all of which can be effectively explored in a nature context. We believe that through participation in meaningful occupations in nature and engaging in social connections, people can find a sense of purpose and belonging.
  • Nature Connectedness and Sustainability – As human beings our wellbeing is intrinsically connected to that of the natural world. By intentionally enhancing our relationship with nature through focused attention, we awaken our senses and regulate our emotions. With this relationship comes a new empathy for the health of our planet.

Our nature connection programs inspire individuals to make long lasting changes in their life to support their own health and wellbeing, their relationships with others, and the world around them.
